In honor of Breastfeeding Awareness Month, we’d like to share our favorite detox technique for breast health.

Breast health is a concern for all of us, men and women alike. With the rise in toxicity found in our food, the air and our environment, we have an increased need to care for our bodies to prevent dis-ease. This is especially important when preparing your body for pregnancy and breastfeeding.

There are various methods of self-care that can be done at home with minimal costs. Dis-ease comes when there is a lack of flow in the body somewhere. Similar to the difference between a stagnant pond where pathogens thrive vs. a flowing stream where there is continual movement. Commonly people think they’re over weight when in fact they have a lymph drainage issue. When they release the dam holding the lymph from flowing, they commonly feel as though they lost weight when in fact they slim down because their lymph is simply flowing again. It may be as easy as doing a local castor oil/hydrotherapy treatment a few times, sometimes there is a food allergen keeping the lymph from draining. The latter would be a full body lymph issue.

This castor oil/hydrotherapy treatment is likely different from what your mother or grandmother may have used on you. I find it a bit easier. Keep in mind that castor oil can stain towels and clothing so using dedicated supplies for your home treatment might be helpful. Castor oil is a natural antimicrobial and antifungal that can help deal with stagnant toxicity where applied.

Some lumps found via mammogram are lymph nodes that are stuck or full. While doing your self-breast exam you can do self-breast massage and incorporate this castor oil/hydrotherapy treatment. Be sure to do another self-exam after the castor oil to see if you feel a difference!

I welcome your questions and would enjoy hearing how this works for you.

What type of castor oil should you use? – I prefer organic, cold-pressed and hexane-free. Hexane is a form of petroleum they use to extract the castor oil. Petroleum tends to block our pores and prevent the natural microbes to do their work to care for our skin, our largest organ.

Supplies needed:

  • Castor oilcastor oil pack
  • 3 hand towels or 3 bath towels (Depending on the size of your breasts)
  • Piece of plastic (garbage bag will do)
  • Heavy blanket to hold the heat in
  • Something to heat 2 of the towels (Large turkey roaster, oven or a microwave)
  • Place to sit or lay down that is covered to prevent water seepage during the process.

Process:

  • Wet 2 towels, wring out by hand and heat them.
  • Wet 3rd towel with cold tap water and wring out. (Usually not necessary to put it in the fridge to cool it more, but you want it cold).
  • Rub a thin layer of castor oil into the axillary (armpits) and over entire breasts. Most breast lymph drains into the axillary nodes making it critical to have this area flowing.
  • Apply a hot towel wrapping to cover the arm pits and breasts.  Be sure it is hot enough to be therapeutic but not burn your skin.
  • Cover with plastic and heavy blanket to hold the heat in.
  • Allow to sit for 5-10 min. or until the towel begins to cool down.
  • Apply second hot towel onto the skin and putting 1st hot towel over top of fresh one to further keep the heat in. Cover again and let sit until the towel begins to cool down.
  • Remove the hot towels and apply the cold one (breathe!) pressing the cold towel into the axillary especially. DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP!  This is necessary to flush the area. Without this step you will feel congested and not well. It warms up quickly, just shocking at first. KEEP THIS ON UNTIL YOUR BODY HEATS THE COLD TOWEL, usually 5-10 min.
